Posture Principles for Health
Begin to increase your posture awareness. Identify posture problems and find solutions to help your clients learn how to stand and sit taller. Begin to see the importance of good body alignment, and how poor posture can contribute to injury. Knowing what to look for when standing & seated can assist you in selecting the most appropriate exercises (Pilates or traditional) to help you and your clients improve their posture quickly and safely.
Course Description
This course is designed to teach a simple and sensible approach to identify both standing and seated posture problems and assist students with increased awareness about their habits, as well as strategies for change.Course will include the following:
- Observation/identification of good and bad posture habits
- A 12 point checklist for standing posture guidelines to utilize with clients to assist them in understanding proper posture & changing habits.
- A series of questions to utilize in student awareness education.
- Guidelines for seated posture habits.
- Strategies for efficient standing, sitting, & movement.
- Demonstrate the benefit of the Pilates Method to improving posture habits.

- Posture Principles from a Pilates Perspective
- Understanding what to change for improved posture.
- Understanding why making changes is important.
- Understand the relationship to Pilates for Movement and Posture.
- Observe Seated Posture, what to change & why.
Learning Objectives: At the completion of this course, participants will:
- Understand the problems created by poor posture habits.
- Be able to identify poor posture vs. good posture standing & seated.
- Awareness of cueing and spotting techniques to effectively explain how to improve posture.
- Understand how to incorporate posture principles into developing individualized client workout programs.
- Understand how to explain the importance of good habits to students for conscious awareness and change.
