Intensive 1: Breathing Basics, Posture Principles, Fundamentals I and Basic Matwork

Course Description

This course is designed to teach the Basic Pilates Matwork exercises and more.. Its a combination of four separate workshops and will include:

Breathing techniques, Posture Awareness, Fundamental "pre-Pilates" exercises for functional stabilization, alignment, and proper muscle recruitment, 22 Basic Matwork exercises with modifications and guidelines for working with special populations, guidelines for teaching, cueing, and spotting clients, and an outline to teach a Basic Mat class.

Learning Objectives:  At the completion of this course, You will;
  • Have knowledge about the background and philosophies behind The Method.
  • Understand the 6 basic principles; breathing, control, concentration, centering, flow of movement, and precision. And be able to relate these principles to the exercises learned.
  • Understand the Fundamental "pre-Pilates" exercises and how these exercises benefit and transfer to learning the Matwork.
  • Knowledge of 22 Basic Matwork exercises.  This includes; proper execution, correct breathing patterns, repetitions, and order of the exercises.
  • General guidelines for assisting clients with special needs who need to modify the exercises.
  • Awareness of cueing and spotting techniques to effectively explain the exercises.
  • With additional practice and preparation, participants have the knowledge to teach at the Basic Level.

Prerequisites:
Familiarity with the first 22 basic Pilates Matwork exercise.  (Ideally, participants should be at a strong intermediate level with the Pilates repertoire before enrolling in the teacher-education program.)  Background in movement, health, or fitness preferred.  Teaching experience preferred but not required.Course
