Breathing Basics Workshop
Proper breathing improves posture. Learn a series of exercises designed to help you understand and become more efficient with your breathing habits.
Course Description:
This course is designed to discuss the process of breath mechanics and provide a variety of breathing techniques that can be utilized with fundamental exercises, Pilates, and daily life activities. Proper breathing techniques can help improve posture, increase lung capacity, and assist with both movement & stabilization principles. Begin to explore & increase awareness of muscle firing patterns, and learn how to incorporate breathing into efficient movement habits. Through a better understanding breathing & breath control teachers can assist clients in learning to identify and strengthen the correct muscle groups to facilitate safe and appropriate movement as taught through the Pilates system.
Course will include the following:
- Anatomy of Respiration.
- Breathing techniques 101. A system of exercises & teaching tools to utilize for explaining proper breath mechanics for safe & supported movement.
- Guidelines for teaching, cueing, and spotting clients to assist them in understanding proper breathing habits, and learn to utilize breath for safe & effective movement.
Course Outline:
- The Respiration System: Inhale & Exhale
- The Diaphragm & muscle systems for respiration
- Methods of Breathing
- Breathing & Posture
- Exercises to Teach Effective Breath Mechanics
Learning Objectives: At the completion of this course, participants will have:
- A better understanding of the Respiratory system.
- An understanding of how better breathing habits assist posture and exercise.
- Knowledge of correct technique for all exercises learned. This includes proper execution, correct breathing patterns, & recommended repetitions.
- Awareness of cueing and spotting techniques to effectively explain better breathing
- General guidelines for identifying which exercises can best benefit a specific client's needs.
- Understand how to incorporate and apply the exercises learned into an exercise program, and safely progress clients into more challenging work.
- With additional practice and preparation, participants have the knowledge to effectively teach the concepts learned to a client or class, facilitating functional strength, flexibility and establishing safe & effective breathing habits
